WHP is the process by which the health and wellbeing of employees is acheived, through the promotion of both active participation and personal enrichment.

In 1986 the Ottawa Charter advocated that health promotion was a positive way of empowering all people, individually or collectively, to achieve better health physically, mentally and socially. The Ottawa Charter indoctrinated that health was the responsibility of all and that it was not just isolated to the health sector.

Identified as an ideal setting for health promotion, as the workplace is already an established community, where individuals spent up to a third of their time, with the necessary scaffolding of social support and access through fellow employees and to a wider extended secondary audience.
